Nekopara ~ Catboys Paradise

And so begins the first look into one of my guilty pleasures: otome games, which also generally fall in the realm of dating sims. (laughs)

However, callingγ€ŒNekopara ~ Catboys Paradise」a dating sim wouldn’t really be correct since there’s not much in terms of actual romance in the game. (Would this be more on the side of ‘kitten love’? lol)

Since this is my first post talking about a game with multiple routes, I wanted to discuss how I will be going about handling this type of genre going forward. (This may be my first post about otome games, but it certainly won’t be my last.)

At first, I thought I could talk generally about each route, but realized it would still make this post too long. Instead, I’ve decided to discuss the game as a whole here and write four additional posts for each catboy later. (A hefty goal, I know.) I don’t think they’ll be extra long, but it would definitely make this post shorter. It would also put my YouTube channel to good use since I’m currently in the process of recording “no commentary” gameplay videos for each of the routes.

And boy, did I need a refresher on how I even found out about this game. Thank goodness I streamed it, otherwise I would not remember how I came across it.

About two years ago (Has it really been that long now?), I stumbled across an otome game blogger named Otome Kitten. At the time, I hadn’t kept up with otome games for a while and wanted to get back into the genre. Not knowing where to turn, I did a quick Google search on otome games and that’s how I found out about Otome Kitten. After reading a few of her reviews and then purchasing those reviewed games, she is now who I turn to when I need a new otome game to play. (laughs) If you want actual reviews of otome games, I would definitely check her out!

Anyway, I saw her review of Catboys Paradise, I saw the pretty catboys along with the voice cast, and I was sold. Hook, line, and sinker. πŸ˜… (Look, I know what I’m weak to, okay?)

Without further ado, let’s open up shop, shall we?

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

Oh boy, here comes the first real post of the year and it’s about a game that originally came out on the Nintendo DS. And with the release of the remastered version last June, I think it’s about time that I talk about this series! (laughs)

Before I begin, however, I’m going to try out a different format when writing these blog posts and see how it goes. I would also like to reiterate that these posts aren’t necessarily reviews as I will not be scoring anything. Recommendations? Sure. Retrospectives? Also fine. But reviews? No, not really.

Many of these posts will probably be me gushing about something or other (it’s part of who I am), but that isn’t to say I won’t have anything negative to say as well. Not everything I consume will be perfect and I honestly don’t expect them to be. If they compelled me enough to sit down and write out my thoughts, then that’s what I’m going to do.

γ€ŒGhost Trick: Phantom Detective」was a game that originally released on the Nintendo DS back in 2010 (and yes, the red D is intentional). I wouldn’t actually be able to get my hands on it since it would later be released in North America the following year while I was halfway through my first year of college. I think my brother and I were immediately drawn to it simply because it was directed by Shu Takumi, the man who created the Ace Attorney series. And if there’s anything you need to know about us, it’s that the Ace Attorney series are among our favorite games. Although, I’m probably a little more into it than my brother is. (laughs)

Anyway, when my brother and I heard that Shu Takumi was working on another game (and a puzzle adventure game at that), you bet your asses we went out to buy it immediately. Back then, we would only buy one copy of a game since why bother to buy two when one copy was enough? Granted, I would have to wait my turn since my brother would play through the game first, but every once in a while, I would watch my brother play through some of it. And boy, oh boy, was this an amazing game to play through once I had my hands on it.

Without further ado, it’s time to jump into the world of Ghost Trick.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello and happy new year~

I know, I know… I’ve been more than a little MIA this past year. Life got a little way too busy, and as a way to destress, I spent most of my 2023 replaying the Ace Attorney series for the nth time lol oops πŸ˜…

I did end up watching a few anime during the year, but I never had enough time to write down my thoughts about it. Since I decided to do an overhaul of my entire blog last year and then ended up not really posting anything after that overhaul… I can’t really call it a blog overhaul, can I?

Now that we’re in the new year, I’m going to do my best to keep up with the things I have in my backlog, along with things that I’m currently making my way through. I would like to look back at the end of the year and see how many things I’ve played, watched, or read. That’s the whole reason why this blog even exists in the first place!

That being said, I finally got off my ass to play through “Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective” even though I preordered the remastered version months ago πŸ˜… You’d think I would’ve played it upon release since the graphics look so crisp compared to when I played it on the Nintendo DS, but nope! In typical Hiba fashion, I left it sitting there, just waiting to be played. While I have the original on the DS, I ended up buying it on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PS4 so I could have that bonus content on hand whenever I want it haha

As of this post, I’m already over halfway done with the game, so please look forward to that post when it comes out! I don’t want to say too much since there’s a lot to unpack about this game and why it’s so, so, so good, but that’ll be a post for another day.

Not much to say in the anime department, but I’ll be watching “Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective” soon! I’ve been waiting for the current season to end, and now that the fall season is over, I’m hoping to watch it later this month. I’m currently reading the manga for it, so now I get to see how the anime adaptation is! Very excited since it’s by Amano Akira, the creator of “Katekyo Hitman Reborn,” a series near and dear to my heart and also where my online handle originated from.

As far as manga goes, I’m still reading “One Piece,” but I’m hoping I can get back into the ones I’ve put on hiatus lol Currently, my goal is to catch up with “Toilet-bound Hanako-kun.” It’s something I’ve left on the sidelines for far too long that I actually need to start from the beginning to remember what the hell has happened. It’ll be my nighttime reading for the time being haha

And I guess that’s all for now! A few mini updates, but at the very least, you know what’s been going on and what you can look forward to later.

Until next time! Bye bye~

✨ THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE ✨ Through the Eyes of a Nintendo Fan

It’s-a me, Mario!

And don’t-a forget about Luigi!

Oh my gosh, you guys. I watched the Mario movie and had such a fun time. I’m posting this weeks after watching it, but all of this was written on the day I watched it (confusing, I know lol)

What a great birthday present though! Rarely does something come out on my birthday. I think the last time that happened, it was an anime series I really wanted to watch. And that was probably a few years ago now.

So I’m glad it was able to happen again! I took the day off from work so I could watch it πŸ˜… But to be fair, my vacation cap was approaching and timing just happened to line up for the week that I needed to take off. So why not take my birthday off? Seemed like the most logical answer to me.

But, boy, what a ride this movie was lol I watched all the available trailers and clips that were released, and nothing could’ve prepared me for what I watched today. For this post, I’ll try to be as spoiler-free as I can, but hopefully, by the time this post comes out, most of the world would’ve already seen it.

Now without further ado, time to get started. Let’s-a go!

The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting

I know I’ve only posted about videogames so far, so how about we switch gears and talk about a manga/anime series lol

“The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting” really came out of nowhere for me. At the time, I was in a weird anime drought, so since I wasn’t in the mood to watch anything, I was looking for stuff to read instead. I don’t even remember what I was searching for, so when I happened to find some translated scans of the series, I decided to give it a shot. The premise was super cute, so I didn’t have anything to lose lol

Needless to say, I fell in love from the start. The series began in 2018, but I’m pretty sure I was kinda late to find out about it. I probably started reading this series a few years ago. Maybe one or two years ago? But, oh man, this series got me hook, line, and sinker πŸ˜… A seinen slice of life about a yakuza taking care of a small child? Literally a series about familial relationships regardless if they’re blood-related or not? That’s my jam right there πŸ˜‚

Anyway, before I get too caught up in rambling about it, let’s break it down into chunks like usual haha All links will be in a reddish-pink color~

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog

πŸƒ Happy belated April Fool’s Day! πŸƒ

I’ve been procrastinating on writing about my first look at “One Piece Odyssey” for so long, that maybe by the time I get that posted, it’ll be an impressions post and not a first look πŸ˜…

So while I procrastinate more on my One Piece post, let’s talk about “The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog,” shall we? Hilariously enough, this was brought to my attention by two friends within about 5min of each other. Before my friends showed me the game, I had no idea this game even existed. After watching the trailer, I knew I had to play it. Plus, the game was free! How could I say no to that?

Anyway, I split the playtime into two days, with April 1 being my completion day. Here’s how my time with this game went… The game’s download link will be in blue (for Sonic lol)

The Unlucky Turnabout (Ultimate Justice – case 1)

‼️ Hold it! A body has been discovered~ ‼️

I didn’t think a fangame would be the first official post on this blog, but here we are lol

“Ace Attorney: Ultimate Justice” combines Ace Attorney and Dangan Ronpa into one ultimate (pun very much intended) fangame.

I honestly came across this game by complete chance. I don’t remember how I found it, but I happened upon it a few days before this past Christmas. Information regarding the fangame, however, started back in September 2022. I watched the trailer and was instantly hooked.

Before we actually move on to where I talk about my experience with the first case, let’s chat a little about the games that were used as crossover material. First off, if there’s anything you need to know about me, it’s that I love Ace Attorney. It’s a series I’ve replayed probably an embarrassingly amount of times, and I am shameless about that lol I’m not as familiar with Dangan Ronpa (I really only know the first and second games), but it’s a Spike Chunsoft game, and I’ve played a few of their games (particularly the ones directed by Uchikoshi Kotaro). Expect future game reviews of his games lol I even got to meet him in an autograph signing session a few Anime Expos ago! ✨

ANYWAY. Back to Ultimate Justice…

Currently, there’s only one case out, with a final goal of 5 cases total. Since there will be a long wait time in between cases, I’ll be reviewing Ultimate Justice on a case-by-case basis. I may do an overall review once I’ve played through the entire game, but that will be decided when the time comes.

Now, without further ado, I’m pleased to present my review of Ultimate Justice’s first case! Links will be in red 😊

πŸŽ† HAPPY NEW YEAR! πŸŽ†

Hello and happy new year, everyone!

With the revamp of this blog, I kinda wanted to make a post about how I will be formatting my posts going forward…or at least, how I would like to format my posts going forward ^^;

On my home page, I mentioned how I want to remember the things I consume not just by saying I watched, read, or played them. I want to be able to go back and read about what hooked me in the first place. In a way, I want to be able to go back to the time when I first got my hands on whatever it was and relive that moment.

I’ve actually tried to do something similar to this a few years back in the form of a one-woman podcast (which I’d affectionately named “Hiba Chats”), but it never took off because I didn’t have the time to sit down and work on episodes as frequently as I had wanted. It was an endeavor I wasn’t quite ready for.

Well, this is me making time for it now…in the form of these posts. These will obviously be planned a little differently than the podcast I had in mind, but I hope to still maintain the point I had wanted to make with the creation of my nonexistent podcast. And that point was to just talk about the things that I enjoy and not be afraid to do so.

Anime and manga were hobbies turned passions the older I got. However, I was always really shy and nervous about sharing my opinions or thoughts about it. So the creation of my podcast was going to be a place for me to just talk about the things that I’m passionate about. It was meant to be a place I could be myself.

So with this revamp, that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. This may not be your conventional “review blog,” but I wanted to put a piece of myself into each post so you get to see what I think about when I pick up a new series, what draws me to it in the first place, and what my overall thoughts about it are.

Like I said above though, this is how I would like to format my posts going forward. I guess I won’t really know how everything will go until my first actual post goes live. I’ll take it one series at a time and see where that gets me haha

Until next time! Bye bye~
