The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog

πŸƒ Happy belated April Fool’s Day! πŸƒ

I’ve been procrastinating on writing about my first look at “One Piece Odyssey” for so long, that maybe by the time I get that posted, it’ll be an impressions post and not a first look πŸ˜…

So while I procrastinate more on my One Piece post, let’s talk about “The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog,” shall we? Hilariously enough, this was brought to my attention by two friends within about 5min of each other. Before my friends showed me the game, I had no idea this game even existed. After watching the trailer, I knew I had to play it. Plus, the game was free! How could I say no to that?

Anyway, I split the playtime into two days, with April 1 being my completion day. Here’s how my time with this game went… The game’s download link will be in blue (for Sonic lol)

Update 10/2/24: Added a “Read More” line.

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog

Download the game here!

It’s Amy Rose’s birthday, and she’s hosting a murder mystery party on the Mirage Express! When Sonic the Hedgehog becomes the game’s victim, everyone is off to get to the bottom of things. However, something feels a bit off – is this really an innocent game or is something more sinister afoot?

~ Summary taken from the game’s Steam page

I think it’s important to mention that I don’t play Sonic games. Like at all. And it’s not because I don’t like Sonic games. I’m pretty sure my only memories of ever playing a Sonic game was “Sonic Adventure 2 Battle” and “Sonic Heroes” on the Nintendo Gamecube. And while that game was janky as hell, I still have fond memories of it. I will never forget Jacky, my brother and my beloved Chao, who was super OP and won every competition we put it in. By the way, we named it Jacky because one of the first things we gave it prior to naming it was a pumpkin that it wore over its head.

But I’m not here to talk about my love for Jacky (lol). I’m here to talk about “The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.” So let’s get started, shall we?

OVERALL THOUGHTS

For a game that came out on March 31 (literally the day before April Fool’s Day), it was very well made. Sure, it was short, but it was that type of game that didn’t need to be long to be enjoyable. The character sprites were so cute and expressive. I even got to see my favs Shadow and Espio.

Even though it doesn’t play like your typical fast-paced Sonic game, I still had a great time as I got to talk to everyone, explore the different rooms, and finally, figure out who in the heck murdered Sonic the Hedgehog.

As far as gameplay goes, it felt like I was playing a simplified “Ace Attorney” game. The only difference was you do everything all in one go, so no courtroom needed lol Each room is its own separate section, so I feel it’s pretty easy to keep track of things as you go about investigating and interrogating. I think it was also really cute for them to include short “collect the rings” minigames during interrogation segments so you could still be like, “Yup, that’s a Sonic game, alright.” πŸ˜…

The graphics and music were also really charming. Each of the rooms had its own theme, which meant the music had to fit the theme as well.

CLOSING REMARKS

All in all, I loved this game. I want to keep talking about it, but I’m cutting myself off because I don’t want to give away too much! Everything about it was so cute and enjoyable that I want everyone to be able to try it out for themselves lol

As I said before, it’s a short game. Definitely finishable in one or two sittings. Some of the “collect the rings” minigames were a bit difficult (and maybe a bit visually difficult to keep track of where everything was), but once you get a hang of the stage, it becomes much easier. I could chalk it up to my bad gaming sense, but I like to think I won’t be bad at something for long! Yes, certain levels took way more tries than necessary, but I eventually did it and completed the game!

I can’t say for certain how long they’ll have this game available (if SEGA decides to remove it from the shop), so get it while you still can and play it for the shits and giggles. It’s free, so you literally have nothing to lose! I promise you won’t regret it! πŸ˜‰

And that’s another post for the books haha Now I can say I technically played three Sonic games πŸ˜‚ As you can tell, I really enjoyed myself with this game. I absolutely adore all the sprites of the characters. I loved their little costumes and expressions so much.

I know I still have to write up something for “One Piece Odyssey” eventually, but I also started playing “Hades” about a week ago and realized I’ll need to write up something for that as well. I’m still working my way through Hades (I’ve only made it past Elysium twice and died in the next area, so I have yet to beat the game). But let’s not put the cart before the horse lol I’ll get to writing those posts eventually!

Until next time! Bye bye~
